September 2009

G'day everyone, and welcome to Spring! As temperatures, skirt hems and corresponding hormone levels shoot upwards in the coming months, the Suade lads are warming up for one of the busiest quarters of their young lives; new tunes, new friends, new passports and a buttload of singin'.

First off, hi to everyone we met in Mudgee, NSW a couple of weeks back - and g'day also to everyone that came down to the Chapel for the show on the 16th. We had a great time - and support act The Bathtets made quite an impression. It's hard to believe that with such talent, they're barely out of high school. Thanks and well done guys, you've got class, talent and a great future to look forward to.

2 Melbourne Shows This Month

We're in a sharing kind of mood right now, so we're teaming up with two other Melbourne groups for combined shows this month that promise to be a load of fun.

Friday September 11: Suade & VF4 @ Theatreworks (ALL AGES)

For starters, it's boys against girls when we take on the Vocal Folds 4 ladies next Friday in a night of head-to-head vocal shenanigans at Theatreworks. These 4 girls are simply awesome singers - if Suade's the top male vocal group in Australia, VF4 must be right up there with the top female groups. Not too hard on the eye either, I might add.

We're taking the opportunity to put together a few 9-part arrangements... In early rehearsals, these are already sounding heeeeeyoooooge. This might be the only time we ever get to sing this stuff, so don't miss out!

This is an all-ages show, under-agers are most welcome.

Saturday September 19: The Melbourne Chorus featuring Suade @ The Witehorse Centre

The Melbourne Chorus have booked us in to perform a feature set for their two September 19 shows at the Whitehorse Centre, including a combined surprise number that's going to be crazy fun.

The Colonel can't make that show - so our good buddy and ex-member Sammy "SammyQ" Qualtrough is going to stand in. Remember him? He's the short guy with the shiny buttons on his crotch and the weird hair. Oh, and the awesome voice. It's always a pleasure to take the stage with Sammy.

Arrangements For Sale

If you're in a singing group and you wanna have a crack at some of our original songs or our arrangements of the covers we do, you'll be glad to know that The Colonel has been busily preparing most of our arrangements as very pretty 5-part PDF music scores, and we're putting them up for sale.

Frankly, I think it's a little offensive that WE get scrappy, photocopied sheets with scribbles all over them and YOU get lovely, manicured PDFs with full colour covers.

Email thecolonel@suade.net if you're interested; tell him which tunes you're after. They cost peanuts, and each of these arrangements has done great things for us.

Digital Sales are Doing Great

Just for those who wondered how our new digital distribution model is going, sales from both our own MP3 store and iTunes are chugging along really nicely, helping to fund our touring this year and our upcoming recording projects.

Digital is a super-convenient way to get hold of our stuff - for 32 bucks you can download the whole Suade collection, including high-res artwork PDFs and even a couple of live recordings that aren't on any CDs. Plus we don't use any DRM/copy protection, so once you've bought 'em they're yours to use on whatever device you like. :)

.....Aaaaaand that's about it for this month. Next month, we're off to Taiwan & Korea for our first international tour, and we'll be throwing a farewell party to show you what kind of act we'll be taking over there.

So until we next meet, enjoy the start of spring and keep on singin'!

Love,
Loz
...and the Suade lads.

Suade with the Bathtets at the end of our Chapel gig last month. Man, those kids are GOOD. We stole this photo from Stephen Bird's Facebook page - hope he doesn't mind!

Suade's Music:

Suade is an award-winning five-part male a cappella vocal group based in Melbourne, Australia. That's five guys singing, each with a microphone and nothing else. No band, no backing tracks. Prepare to be amazed. Read more.
